What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a system of individually made, clear plastic aligners that fit closely over your teeth. Each aligner makes a small, planned adjustment, with successive sets gradually moving your teeth towards their intended positions.
The aligners are removable for meals and cleaning. Treatment is planned and monitored by your dentist, with reviews to check how your teeth and bite are changing.

John has a particular interest in clear aligner orthodontics, helping patients improve the alignment of their teeth through individually planned Invisalign treatment.
He holds a Master’s degree in Clear Aligner Orthodontics, awarded with Distinction, alongside a Master’s degree in Dental Implantology, also awarded with Distinction. He graduated from Cardiff University in 2017 and holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Dental Education.
His approach considers your smile as a whole: the position of your teeth, your bite, the health of your gums and any other treatment you may need.
Where orthodontics forms part of a wider treatment plan, John can coordinate your care with colleagues within the practice so that the different stages work together.

From planning to maintaining your smile
What does treatment involve?
A free consultation with Rebecca.
Your 30-minute appointment includes a digital scan and photographs. Rebecca will listen to your priorities, show you a smile simulation and explain the treatment process, fees and finance option. John reviews your suitability and confirms the clinical plan; further assessment with him is arranged where needed.
Planning your tooth movements.
Photographs, digital scans and any necessary X-rays help with planning. A digital model illustrates the proposed changes. John will confirm the treatment aim, likely timescale and any additional steps needed. You will receive a written treatment plan and quotation before deciding to proceed; the final result depends on how your teeth respond.
Wearing your aligners.
You will work through a sequence of aligners, changing them as instructed. Regular reviews allow us to check your progress. Additional scans and further aligners, sometimes called refinements, may be needed to improve the final alignment.
Maintaining your result.
Once active treatment is complete, retainers help keep your teeth in their new positions. Your treatment includes three sets of Vivera retainers. We will explain how to wear and look after them.
Your questions answered
Can I spread the cost with finance?
Yes. For Invisalign Comprehensive at £4,150, our finance example is a £1,500 deposit to the practice and the remaining £2,650 over 10 months at 0% APR. If your application is approved, that means 10 repayments of £265 and a total treatment cost of £4,150.
The practice deposit is separate from the finance payments, and the first finance instalment may also be collected upfront. Your agreement will confirm the payment dates. Finance is subject to status, affordability checks and approval; applicants must be 18 or over. See the full example and terms.
How do I apply for finance?
Once your treatment plan and fee have been confirmed, Rebecca can send you a secure Tabeo application link. You complete the application online and review the loan offer and repayment schedule before deciding whether to accept.
Tabeo manages the application and credit decision on behalf of the lender. Rebecca can explain the process and follow up with you, but finance approval is not guaranteed. Paying for treatment in full is also an option.
Could I be suitable?
Suitability depends on the position of your teeth, your bite and the health of your teeth and gums. Active decay or gum disease needs to be addressed before treatment.
Invisalign can treat a range of alignment problems, but some movements are better managed with fixed braces or specialist orthodontic care. John will explain what is realistic and recommend an alternative or referral where appropriate.
Do you see children and teenagers as well as adults?
Yes. We welcome adults, teenagers and children for assessment, with no fixed minimum age. For younger patients, the timing and type of treatment depend on their dental development and individual needs. John will advise whether treatment is appropriate now or whether monitoring or another approach would be better.
How long do I need to wear the aligners each day?
Expect to wear your aligners for around 22 hours each day, including overnight, following John’s instructions. Remove them for meals, drinks other than plain water, and cleaning.
Consistent wear is essential. Leaving them out for too long can slow treatment or prevent your teeth from moving as planned.
Will I need attachments or space made between my teeth?
You may need small tooth-coloured attachments bonded to some teeth to help the aligners grip and guide movement. These are removed when they are no longer needed.
Some plans also require a carefully measured amount of enamel to be removed between selected teeth to create space. This is called interproximal reduction, or IPR. Any attachments, IPR, elastics or extractions needed would be discussed before you agree to treatment.
Is treatment uncomfortable?
Some pressure or tenderness is normal when you start treatment or change aligners. This usually settles over the following few days. Your speech may also feel slightly different at first while you adjust.
Contact the practice if an aligner is causing persistent pain or does not fit properly.
How long does treatment take?
The timescale depends on the changes required and how your teeth respond. Smaller adjustments may take several months; more extensive treatment takes longer.
John will give you an individual estimate. Additional aligners or changes to the plan may extend treatment.
Are there any risks or limitations?
As with other orthodontic treatment, possible risks include discomfort, gum irritation, changes to tooth roots and a result that differs from the original plan. Poor cleaning can lead to decay or gum problems.
John will explain the risks relevant to your mouth before treatment. Regular dental check-ups and good daily cleaning remain essential throughout.
Will I need retainers afterwards?
Yes. Retainers are an essential part of orthodontic treatment.
Teeth can move throughout life, including after successful straightening. Maintaining your result requires long-term retainer wear, usually at night, according to your individual instructions.
Your treatment includes three sets of Vivera retainers. Retainers need checking and may eventually need replacement. Contact us promptly if one is lost, damaged or no longer fits.
What are the alternatives?
Depending on your needs, alternatives may include fixed braces, other orthodontic approaches or accepting your current tooth positions.
Bonding or veneers can change the shape or appearance of teeth, but they do not move the teeth or correct the bite in the same way. We will explain the advantages and limitations of suitable options.
