Care for the inside of your tooth

Inside each tooth is soft tissue containing nerves and blood vessels. If it becomes inflamed or infected, root canal treatment can help relieve symptoms and save the tooth.

Why might I need extra care?

Some teeth have narrow or curved canals, or need earlier root canal treatment to be repeated. Your dentist may suggest Joe's care after assessing how complex your tooth is.

Meet Joe

Joe is a general dentist with a special interest in endodontics - the care of the inside of teeth. He has completed a postgraduate Diploma in Endodontics with Distinction, alongside further focused training.

Dental microscope

Magnification and lighting help Joe see fine detail inside your tooth.

3D imaging when needed

A CBCT scan can provide extra detail about the roots and surrounding bone. It is used only when clinically justified.

Your treatment and recovery

What to expect

Joe will assess your tooth and discuss your options, likely outcome and costs before treatment begins.

  1. Make you comfortable

Local anaesthetic numbs the tooth. A protective sheet, called a rubber dam, keeps it isolated during treatment.

  2. Clean and seal the canals

The tissue inside is removed, then the canals are cleaned, disinfected and filled. More than one visit may be needed.

  3. Restore and protect your tooth

A final filling or crown is needed afterwards. Your dentist will explain the restoration suitable for your tooth.

Will it hurt afterwards?

Some tenderness is common and should settle. Most people return to normal activities the same day. Contact us if pain is worsening or you develop swelling.

Will it definitely work?

Success is not guaranteed. Some teeth need further treatment, specialist care or removal. Joe will discuss the risks and outlook for your tooth, including any risk of fracture.

Your choices

You do not have to choose private treatment. Your dentist will explain which options are suitable for your tooth.

  • NHS care

Root canal treatment may be provided by your usual dentist or through an NHS referral, depending on your needs and local services.

  • Private care with Joe

Additional endodontic training and dedicated equipment, with treatment here at the practice.

  • Specialist referral

Treatment with a dentist on the GDC specialist list in endodontics, where appropriate.

  • Removing the tooth

Extraction is another option. Whether to leave the gap or replace the tooth can be discussed separately.

Private root canal treatment

£600

A written estimate will confirm your total cost and what is included, including any scan, final filling or crown.
